Our 360 Approach

There is an African proverb that says, “It takes a village to raise a child.” At Oasis, that isn’t a slogan - it’s a conviction. Children and young people thrive when they are surrounded by consistent, caring adults who choose to show up, listen well and walk alongside them over time.

Our approach to volunteering is rooted in this long-term, relational commitment. Many of the young people we serve have experienced instability or broken trust. What they do not need is another short-term programme. They need steady, reliable adults who are prepared to invest in them for the long haul - building the trust that makes real support and opportunity possible.

That’s why volunteering with Oasis is about more than giving time. It’s about forming meaningful relationships. It’s about creating safe spaces where young people feel seen, heard and valued. Trust is not built overnight; it grows through consistency - week after week, conversation after conversation, moment after moment.

We design our volunteering roles intentionally. Volunteers are trained, supported and embedded within a wider team so they can serve sustainably and effectively. Whether mentoring, supporting youth activities, helping with community programmes or sharing practical skills, our volunteers become part of a trusted network around each young person.

Consistency matters. Presence matters. Belonging matters.

We also recognise that volunteering transforms the volunteer. As people invest in young lives and local communities, they often discover deeper purpose, connection and growth themselves.

Together, we build a village - a community where children and young people are known, supported and given the opportunities they need to thrive, not just for a season, but for life.
